Snowball - Minecraft Guide - IGN (2024)

Minecraft's Snowballs are items that are obtained when either Snow or a Snow block is destroyed with a Shovel (or when an explosion destroys them). They can also be found in the Chests of houses in snowy Villages, as well as the "Ice Box Chest" in Ancient Cities. Finally, Snow Golems can drop up to 15 Snowballs when killed.

Uses

  • Snowballs can be used to craft Snow Blocks by placing four of them in a square on the Crafting grid.
  • Snowballs can only be contained in stacks of 16 in your Inventory.
  • Similar to Arrows show from a Bow, Snowballs follow a ballistic arc, so you'll have to learn and compensate for this in order to be effective with them.
  • Snowballs deal no damage to any mobs, except 1.5 Hearts to Blaze and .5 Hearts to the Ender Dragon (as well as the End Crystals). However non-player Mobs will have a knockback effect, which at least gives Snowballs some limited functionality.
  • While Snowballs don't damage Zombified Piglins, hitting one with a Snowball is counted as an attack and will cause them to act hostile towards you.
  • Snowballs can be very useful when fighting other players. If an almost defeated enemy tries to tower up high into the sky to escape, you can simply throw snowballs at them until they fall down. If you are fighting on higher ground, you can throw snowballs to knock your opponent away.
