Taste Test: Trader Joe's Gluten-Free Ginger Snaps (1)

The ginger snaps from Trader Joe's are different from the ones you're most likely used to because of two main reasons: they're gluten-free, and they don't go easy on the ginger.

These little cookies are made with all-natural ingredients, and the gluten-free flour that's used contains corn, chickpeas, potatoes, tapioca, and rice. The texture is crispier than traditional ginger snaps, which generally are much harder to bite through, and they've got a great crunch.

As for flavor, our panel of tasters all agreed that they're unexpectedly gingery, even more so than what might be expected. They're spicy, and the ginger flavor lingers for a while on your palate. Whereas most ginger snaps taste more of molasses than ginger, those ingredients' roles are reversed in this case, to the point that the ginger flavor was too strong for some of our testers. The sugar content was just right, though. In summary: if you're a fan of ginger, you'll be a fan of these.

An 8-ounce package of these cookies sells for $2.29, and a five-cookie serving contains 140 calories, 6 grams of fat, 21 grams of carbohydrates, and 12 grams of sugars.
