Jamie Oliver Tomato Sauce

If you have followed me for a while you will know that at 18 I couldn’t cook and learnt to cook from my chef husband and binge watching Jamie Oliver and The Naked Chef. I would watch hours and hours of Jamie Oliver and loved the simplicity of his recipes.

One recipe that caught my attention in the early days was Jamie Oliver’s tomato sauce. Up until this point I don’t think I had ever considered making my own tomato sauce and would just grab a jar of tomato sauce from Tesco’s.

Before you knew it, I was making a homemade tomato sauce all the time. I would use whatever spare vegetables I had in and load them up to make a delicious creamy tomato sauce.

Soup Maker Tomato Sauce

But even though I loved to make my own Jamie Oliver tomato sauce the problem was the effort. I would have lots of washing up to do, hated the taste of boiled vegetables and even when I upgraded to a steamer it just didn’t seen as enjoyable as it once was.

Then I saw a soup maker advertised in a magazine and before you knew it, I had bought a soup maker just to make a homemade tomato sauce.

It was amazing. I could do the whole tomato sauce in the soup maker, then package into containers and freeze for whenever I needed it.

What Else Can You Make In A Soup Maker?

That is the wonderful thing. The soup maker isn’t just there to make you some soup. You can also use the soup maker for creamy tomato sauce, soup maker hummus and even for a batch of homemade chicken liver pate.

I also believe you can use a soup maker for jam, yoghurts and loads of other things, but I haven’t tried that yet.

Slimming World Tomato Sauce

I should also mention that I originally started making this creamy tomato sauce for Slimming World. I wanted a veggie loaded tomato sauce that I could use for everything.

In a similar way that we have a speed soup for slimming world this was going to be our speed sauce.

If you follow Slimming World or another low calorie diet, or maybe you are on the plant based diet, then this tomato sauce is ideal.

Basic Tomato Sauce

I also call it my basic tomato sauce because its my tomato sauce for everything.

  • Best Tomato Pasta Sauce – You can make this and then load it into your slow cooker with wholegrain pasta and you have a yummy tomato sauce pasta.
  • Best Tomato Sauce For Pizza – You can also spread it over your pizza dough bases and have it for yummy homemade pizzas.
  • Fish In Tomato Sauce – If you love your fish in tomato sauce then you can do that too.
  • Spaghetti Tomato Sauce – When I made our Ninja Foodi Spaghetti I used the same tomato sauce I am showing you how to make today.

Though best of all, it is a quick tomato pasta sauce. You can dump the ingredients into the soup maker and then have tomato sauce ready to use.

Or what I love to do is make a batch of it and dump spare tomato sauce in the freezer for another day.

Just like the supply I have just made here:

You can also mix and match your tomato sauce ingredients. Such as making a cherry tomato pasta sauce or making a tomato and red pepper sauce.

How To Make Creamy Tomato Sauce?

If you are wondering how do you make Jamie Oliver Tomato Sauce then this is how it is done:

  1. Dump ingredients into the soup maker.
  2. Cook.
  3. Blend and serve.

This is just how ridiculously simple it is to make a homemade tomato sauce in the soup maker, and you will wonder why you ever buy the cans.

Even better, it is fantastic for clearing out your fridge of all the leftovers and avoiding food waste.

How To Thicken Tomato Sauce?

It is easy to thicken tomato sauce. What I usually do is add in extra carrots and then blend. The carrots make your tomato sauce incredibly creamy and are a great alternative to a higher carb thickener.

Note that on our ingredients list we have carrots and that is because we want to use carrots to make the tomato sauce thick and don’t want it to come out watery.

How I Double My Soup Maker Tomato Sauce?

Here is a trick that works with the Ninja Foodi Soup Machine (its this one if you want to upgrade) and that is that the Ninja soup maker blends as it goes.

This means that after 15 minutes of cooking your ingredients have decreased to the following and you no longer have a super full soup machine:

Then what I do is reload it up with fresh tomatoes:

And then let it cook for the rest of its cook time.

Plus, if I didn’t do this, I would end up with just enough tomato sauce for one meal, instead of freezer supplies.

Notes

Liquid. The reason the courgettes go in first is because they are watery and produce their own stock. And by doing this you don’t need to add water and if you added water your sauce will need to be thickened.

Courgette. If you are wondering what courgette is, then note that courgette is called zucchini in the US.
