This is a family favorite for sure. I’ve been making puppy chow for a really long time and the boys are still obsessed with it, which is good. And since this recipe has Nutella in it instead of melted white chocolate, it’s safe to say that this is a unique and fun flavor, too.

Really anything that you want. Chocolate and peanut butter immediately come to mind but don’t forget that chocolate chips could be a great addition as well. Try some Mexican chocolate or even stir in vanilla for a different taste. So many options.

How long does puppy chow last?
In our house, not very long! But in all reality, as long as you’re keeping it in an airtight container, it should last for 3-4 days without any type of issue.
There's sort of an ongoing debate about the name of this chocolate-covered cereal treat. Some people call it puppy chow, while others know it by different names: muddy munch, monkey munch, or muddy buddies. Muddy Buddies is actually the official name of the recipe marketed by General Mills, the maker of Chex cereal.
Why Is My Puppy Chow Soggy? After coating the cereal mixture with powdered sugar, don't rush the process. Cool completely on a baking sheet until firm before packing into an airtight container. This step of cooling and drying is essential for puppy chow that will stay crisp, not soggy.
What Is Puppy Chow? “Puppy chow” (a.k.a. muddy buddies) is the name for a homemade candy or snack that's made with cereal, chocolate, peanut butter, and powdered sugar. General Mills sells their own version of the popular treat, but it's easy to make at home with just a few ingredients.
Typically yes, you can make churro dough ahead of time and refrigerate it. You can fry refrigerated dough straight from the fridge. However, if you're using a stiffer/low hydration dough, it may be difficult to pipe when cold. Letting the dough sit out for 30 minutes at room temperature will make it easier to pipe.
If pet food aisles seem sparse, it's likely due to supply chain issues. A familiar issue lately for stores and consumers (especially over the past few years), supply chain issues have affected almost everything you can think of. In this case, these supply chain issues are significantly impacting smaller stores.
Because puppy foods are formulated to deliver higher amounts of protein and fat, along with other nutrients needed for a puppy's rapid initial growth, feeding puppy food regularly to a healthy adult can cause unwanted weight gain, among other health problems.
Chex Cereal: Make sure you start with fresh cereal, not an opened box that went unfinished. This will ensure your Muddy Buddies stay crunchy and don't taste stale.
Certain ingredients may be harder for the puppy to digest, leading to loose stools or diarrhoea. Sensitivity or Allergies: Puppies, like adult dogs, can have sensitivities or allergies to specific ingredients in their food.
Therefore, we would always recommend soaking dry food for puppies in warm or hot water from the age of 3 to 4 weeks to help them eat it easier. It also helps provide your fur babies with essential water as at this stage they often don't drink enough on their own accord.
How Puppy Chow Got Its Name. Chex cereal, originally made by the Ralston Purina Company, debuted in grocery stores in 1937. Because the company referred to their dog food as “dog chow” and cat food as “cat chow,” they jokingly called their new cereal line “human chow,” according to Taste.
Make sure you don't overheat your chocolate/peanut butter/butter mixture! This will keep the chocolate from burning and becoming clumpy. Before you begin, prep a parchment-lined baking sheet and a bag filled with powdered sugar so you can move quickly.
If it is too sticky it could be two things: the gluten hasn´t properly developed or the water is not well incorporated. You can solve this by kneading the dough for longer and leave it to rest 5 extra minutes. If this still doesnt help you can add a bit more of extra flour to the dough to help absorb more water.
If the batter is too runny, whisk in a spoon of flour. If it's too stiff, add a teaspoon of water and whisk. You can make this churro batter ahead and store it in the refrigerator for a later day. Put it in an airtight container and it'll last for up to five days.
Many Redditors claimed that they hadn't been fans for years — not since a pandemic-era reinvention, when the classic, straight-ridged churro, retailing for $1, was suddenly replaced in 2021 with a doughy twist that was 50% more expensive.
Its brown kibble-like appearance harkens back to the chow of the Purina company, and the name wasn't subtle, people called it Puppy Chow, knowing well that the dog food company manufactured that cereal. While party mix was a little more universally known for many decades, Puppy Chow was a neat quirk of the Midwest.
In 2002 General Mills developed Muddy Buddies, the same recipe as Puppy Chow. But it can't be said that General Mills invented the recipe since Midwesterners recall seeing it and eating it long before the early 2000s.
Puppy food does have more calories than dog food, because puppies need more calories to support growth. AAFCO recommends a minimum of 8.5% for dry puppy food versus only 5.5% for adult dog food. More calcium in puppy formulas. Growing teeth and bones need extra support.
